Each Monday there is a new photo subject over on the Ellipsis blog. You have until the following Sunday evening to take your photos and post it on your blog. This week the subject is cemeteries. Which could be a cemetery as in a graveyard or some other type of “cemetery” like an auto wreaking yard. I find cemeteries interesting places to photograph so I decided to stick with the traditional and photograph a Texas cemetery. On Friday evening just before the sun set (when it was a bit cooler) I drove up the road a few miles and visited The Zion Hill Cemetery which was established in 1879.

It has a Texas Historical marker.

This is the original rock entranceway that is now inside the fenced area of the cemetery.

One of the things I like most about photographing in cemeteries is the headstones and the statues of the old graves. Look at the interesting craving of this angel statue.

It’s Sunday evening and still very hot outside here in Texas. One more week of July and then we have August to look forward to. Even though the schools will be going back in session in August it will still be hot here. The weather around here can be unpredictable but one thing I know for sure….August is still summer so until fall temps arrive, I’ll be limiting my photography to late in the day or very early in the morning.
